Capitol Highway
Artwork by Kaye Synoground
When one thinks of Multnomah,
one tends to think of the iconic image of the row of buildings at
its core, as portrayed in our header, drawn by artist Kaye
Synoground. We seldom think of the road that runs between
those buildings. Capitol Highway, with its sinuous curves
that undulate over and through the hills of southwest Portland,
crossing two picturesque bridges, is as much an icon of Multnomah
as any of its structures.
|
One of the many things that
gives Multnomah Village its uniqueness is the viaduct at the west
end of the business district. It has helped artists
and photographers portray Multnomah as a truly special place, which
it is. The viaduct became a part of the landscape way back in 1927.
